We live in a Cougar Town

Competitive night the one we live yesterday. ABC and CBS tied in 18-49 ratings while FOX won 18-34 ratings. Great numbers for ABC comedies. They had, although less viewers, better ratings than DWTS. I'm glad to see that show are being this healthy this season (at least for now) because I thought numbers this year were going to be horrible. Glee keeps having a good result in he demos and it's confirmed as the first FOX hit of the season (maybe only one?). Can't wait to see tonight numbers. Flashforward promises to have very good numbers but, how will Grey's anatomy and CSI come back? Thursdays promise to give us much to talk about, as well and Wednesdays, an, oh! Tuesdays, or Mondays, etc...

Maundy Thursday...

...or Holy Thursday. That's what Ben Silverman and NBC must be thinking right now. NBC went from worst network (even worse than the CW) on Wednesday to best network on Thursday. They couldn't be the best in viewers but they sure were best in demos. At 8p.m, The Office managed to by the first second (after Survivor) in the 18-49 category and first (by far) in the 18-34 category. At 8.30 p.m. the premiere of Parks and Recreation went down in both viewers and demos but was still good. At 9.m. (and back to The Office) NBC was first again in demos, but this time in both categories (even though CSI more than doubled NBC in viewers!!!)
But the war of the night was about to begin. At 10 p.m., both CBS and NBC premiered Harper's Island and Southland respectively. As we previewed before, Southland managed to gain viewers while Harper's Island lost them. Both shows look promising but I think NBC should be more interested in Southland to do well because it can be a show they can get renew for ext season, while Harper's Island is just a 13-episode show.

It ain't nothing like country

Despite having decreased its numbers for the last years, as you can see on the graph below, this year's CMA went up to the numbers they have 10 years ago in 1999 allowing CBS to win the night.
On NBC on the other hand, Kings kept going down more and more. What's more, the show lost viewers comparing the first half hour and the second.
On FOX, even though the aired only one new episode of their cartoon-comedy-night, they won the 18-34 ratings.
And ABC....well ABC is pretty far away of its regular numbers due to repeated on Desperate Housewives.

Viewers or demos?

From American Ryan

If you ask me, demos, of course. It seems that's the number networks are looking when the time for a renewal comes. Yesterday night FOX and ABC tied at demos with 4.2/11 while ABC had more viewers, and CBS was just behind with 4.1/10.
Things that I found interesting:
  1. Even with more competition Gossip Girl was up this week (OK, just a bit, but up)
  2. 24 came back to its regular numbers (House lead-in helped, of course)
  3. Good performance of the new episodes of House (being aired after busted this show to heaven!)
  4. Has Heroes reached its lowest level??
  5. Will Dancing with the stars ever have better numbers than American Idol?? (They are near but...haha...keep trying ABC...keep trying....)

Family night

With no original episode of Desperate Housewives on air, CBS became the king of the night. Talking about kings...I really really thought that show would be the comeback of NBC but...it is really not working. Yesterday night, even it followed the Bayhill Golf Tournament which managed to be second in the demos, Kings was only watched by4.45 million viewers and 1.3/ 3 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. One hour later, the Celebrity Apprentice went up again to 8.51 million viewers and a 3.2/ 8 among adults. I have never seen the show, but it looks very promising and revies seemed to be positive. I guess it's just the NBC effect...

Celebrity Apprentice (NBC)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.55 million (#4), A18-49: 2.3/ 5 (#4)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.87 million (#3), A18-49: 3.0/ 7 (#2t)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.65 million (#2), A18-49: 3.8/ 9 (#1)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 9.98 million (#1), A18-49: 3.9/10 (#1)

CBS could get the number one in both demos and viewers thanks to the basketball, 60 minutes and The Amazing Race which were very strong.
On ABC, a new edition of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition managed to go up from number 2 to number one in both demos and viewers from 8p.m. to 9.30 p.m. as you can see in the details.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.24 million (#2), A18-49: 2.8/ 8 (#3)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 10.35 million (#2), A18-49: 3.3/ 8 (#2)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 11.43 million (#2), A18-49: 3.8/ 9 (#2)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 12.16 million (#1), A18-49: 4.2/10 (#1)

Nothing new happened on FOX, but Family guy did pretty good becoming number one among adults 18-49 with 4.2/10.
